The "YELL" Leader Report

Cheer may not be considered a “sport” but it takes more than just blood, sweat, and tears to do this!
On November 2nd, 1898. A student named Jonny Campbell from the University of Minnesota led a group of men to the university’s football stadium, which was holding a game between the University of Minnesota Golden Gophers and the Northwestern University Wildcats. It was end of the 1st half of the game and the score was 0-6 and the gophers were ready to add another defeat to their 2-3 season. As the fans were clearing the bleachers and only 5 minutes to kick off. A squad of men stood as everyone left and began to yell “RAW-RAW-RAW” “GO-GOPHERS”. The fans clearing-out laughed but Jonny and his squad didn’t care and they continued cheering on the Golden’ Gophers’. The Football players heard these enthusiastic yells and had gotten them stirred up to play like they had never played before. Little did they know that it was going to change the momentum of the game and lead them to their first victory in three strait losses? Much of the credit went to Campbell and his "yell leaders." At that late-season game, the tradition of cheerleading was born!
(Randy Neil, Elaine Hart: Summary of the history of Cheerleading.  Reprinted with the permission of 'Official Cheerleaders Handbook' Pg.1)
As the years passed, “Cheerleading” had evolved from standing on the sideline yelling through “big” cones (Megaphone) to dancing, lifting people and throwing them 30 feet in the air, doings flips and tumbling, and having it being called a team and going to measure their skills against other teams. Women had become more involved in the activity, but to this day women and men still participate in the activity together as one team or even just the two. This is known as Partner-Stunting, in which there is only one base and one flyer which are typically done on more advanced levels of cheerleading. They require a great amount of strength and skill on both the part of the flyer and the part of the base. They even have separate competitions to measure male and female’s abilities to partner stunt along with other types of competitions. These gatherings have become “HUGE” over the years and have gotten really “intense”! So “intense” that the “Worldwide Leader in Sports” ESPN broadcast the “Super Bowl” of cheerleading, which is known as The National Cheerleading Championship held or “Nationals” every year for the 45 years in Orlando, FL.
To this very day, the controversy of “Cheerleading being a sport?” rages on about whether it's a sport or not. There are rarely any questions about the athleticism of cheerleaders. It takes years to perfect some of the jumps, stunts and gymnastics involved in cheerleading. Cheerleading isn't just yelling on the sidelines, it involves lots of physical activity, skill and tons of enthusiasm. Everyone can't be a football player, not everyone can sing in a choir or play an instrument in a band. The skills involved in Cheerleading leave no doubt that cheerleaders are exceptional athletes. To perform their activities, they must be as strong as any football player, as graceful as any dancer and as flexible as any gymnasts. The definition of the ‘Sport’ states:
Sport /spĂ´rt/: An activity involving physical exertion and skill in which an individual or team competes against another or others.(Webster’s Dictionary)

They are athletes by every definition of the word “Sport” Some people possess abilities to do things that others may not and may never possess but you become a cheerleader by trying out and being selected because you are one of the best candidates for the team.
(-Jeff Webb: CEO of Varsity inc. ESPN commentator. and former University of Oklahoma Yell-Leader/ Live, Breathe, &“Cheer” Chpt.2 Pg.63)

Nature

Nature can give without asking for anything in return. It cares for anything and everything. From the fresh breezy wind, warmth glow of the sun, and the brush from the grass and the leaves of the trees. Nature is welcoming and cares for all.  Nature is all around us and like "us", it feels like all other living things. Nature grows, it lives, and it learns. Without nature we would perish before our own eyes because Nature  is "life" itself. Nature is "Our" mother and when she is ready to let us live on our own we must care for her like she has cared for us.

The Beauty of Clouds

I agree, nature makes me think of the pure side of the world, for example clouds. To me clouds are a symbol of beauty and grace. I love and respect nature because it keeps me enthusiastic about life. In my opinion a best way to experience nature is to go out camping or hiking.

Love Nature

I agree, I absolutely love nature, Its what keeps us alive. The best way to return the favor is to respect nature for helping us with the good qualities it provides us with. The best way to experience the natural world is by going camping. By that doin soo, you will start to comprehend how beautiful it is !

nature

I feel that nature is something that we should alway's cherish because in MY opinion i think without "Nature" we wouldnt exsist because that's what makes the world go around. To experience nature, you must look within yourself to experience thing's that make you feel one with nature. i dont really know what else to write about what i feel about "nature".

Zamarah / Nature

Nature is something that you should enjoy and explore something that you could identify yourself with. Its beautiful and wonderful to feel nature all around you. The best way that you could experience nature is by going outside exploring and finding things that you never thought you could find. Theres alot of life in nature that you don't even know about.I think that nature is overrated for young adults like ourself because we are not really interested in the natural world.

Nature

Nature is very important to me and everyone else. Without nature there is no beauty. All the animals, plants, trees and flowers would not be here for us all to see. There would be no earth for us to take pride in. More peolpe should take pride in the earth we have now because its really going down hill, no one can make things better but us the people of the world...

Nature- Dalila Morales

I love nature, yes i feel the same way because nature is beautiful. lol without nature we wouldnt appreciate the beautiful such as the sky, clouds, and animals. Nature makes the world nice aha.

Nature - Josh Perez

Often times we forgot about the enviroment in which we live. We dont realize that the buildings we consrtuct, streets we pave, and land we clear all have dire effects on the habitat that we live in. Sometimes it's necessary that we step back to truely appreciate the natural beauty that we are already surrounded by. Nature is beautiful, and it need not be masked by the shadows of the fruits of our labor. Our efforts to make the surroundings we live in more immaculate, often hinder the beauty in which we've always resided in.

Nature

Nature is something that we all need. I think everybody loves nature. It's nice to feel fresh air around us. Because is need all the times!

nature

I believe nature is an important part of life. I have a great respect for nature because without it we could not survive. In writing it helps give a vivid image for the reader. The way I think is best to experience nature is to go around the U.S. to see all the different types of nature. No i believe it very relevant to us young adults because it's all around us.
Nature is something thats always going to be on earth naturally yes i feel the same way about nature.

Nature- Omar Quintero

My opinion of nature is that it is awesome. i love being outside. i believe that nature and the wild is the best way to clear a mind no matter what might be on it. i really do i agree with author because it is the one and only natural and solitary place in this world left.

Ruby Martinez naughty nature

i believe nature is beautiful but also bad as well causing all this harm to so many people, destroying their lives causing them so much pain when then did not deserve it. earthquakes, tsunamis, tornado's, floods and many other natural disasters where it causes people to get hurt and even lose their lives. nature may be beautiful to some people but it is really scary when it comes to me.
I could say I love nature, but then again I havent done much to help it. And that is something I would like to change. A lot of us dont really appreciate nature and its sad because we do things to harm it and we dont even realize it. We live in a desert so we really dont have the beautiful experience of being surrounded by trees, plants, and that amazing smell of fresh trees! For example if you go to Ruidoso, thats a good place to see how beautiful nature could be. And well here in El Paso we have the mountains and some plants, if you go up McKelligon its a beautiful view of the mountains and you'll see few caves where the animals live. I think we should all be a little bit more thankful and take care of our envioriment. We could do this by not killing trees, keep our enviroment clean, and pollution is big issue for nature. And how i said it before we probably dont care because we live in a desert and everything looks death here, but why not go camping with your friends on a weekend and explore around?? I think this would be a great experience!

Nature

For an author all types of nature helps an author. It could be the typical nature such as grass, trees, seas to the not so nature, but it is such as buildings, roads, etc. Nature creates a more vivid image for the author's readers, creating art in their writings.  Using nature is very important to give a sense of familiarity in reading and a imaginary images as they read. But my views of nature are less important, I have no connection or feelings for it, but it is needed for writings, especially in novels.

Nature

I believe that nature is something beautiful that people should go and explore. To me, how i see nature,is to go out to explore the world and see how our world looks like. and its so beautiful to live next to the mountains thats like a part of nature a I like a lot and its fun to go up the mountain, and it would be fun to go to a forest or something because I think that theres were nature is.

Nature :)

Nature, something that is beyond beautiful and is something not many of us humans appreciate. The beauty of nature is that it is right in your backyard, or you can drive by the mountains and stare at them, and realize how stunning it is to live right by them. Me, as an indivisual am one of the ones who may not look into nature that close compared to others, but nature does relax your thoughts, without having to do anything. I think we should all start appreciating it more, and explore more beyond where we might live. The mountains, oceans, and lakes are way more beautiful than what we may think.

Natalie Blanco the BAD nature!

In life nature is bad for the point is nothing is really good happening.there are national problems
every were from floods, to tornado's. everything is pain and suffer in nature.hmmmmm may be we could say this is our fault that this is happening we cause global worming and that causes the wether and the climats to change on us so basicly we are making nature bad our selfs.

Soft Nature

Nature to me, is the most important thing in life. Us as humans depend on nature. Nature gives the vibe of peace and love. If the world was just made of construction us as humans would feel incomplete and without life. Nature is beautiful, somethinng man did not create. It was created from soil. I love the green it shows and all the amazing things it carries with it.The fresh air that is all around us and big blue sea.

crystal noriega- nature

Nature is without a doubt important to our lives as a human being and should be greatly appreciated since we are a part of this earth. Without nature, we wouldn't understand the fundamentals of life. Nothing is like it and shouldn't be in comparison with anything that is irrelevant to it. I believe nature somewhat gives off that feel of love because love is beautiful, euphoric, infinite and most of all, inspiring. acknowledging the beauty of our nature is inspires and often contributes to the many great works of philosophers and poets.
I believe that nature is something beautiful that people should go and explore. To me, how i see nature,is to go out to the woods or go around the world to explore and see how our world looks like. Its awsome how I could focus on the mountains and actually see the beauty of them.

6th Period Nature (Rafael C)

Nature. It’s a place to calm your inner being. It’s a place to come to peaceable terms with ones inner self. It’s something to assist you in gathering a greater understanding of the world around you. It’s something to help you study life. It’s someone to make you love life. It’s someone that helps you “see into the life of things.”
I used to live close to the woods, and I experienced all the things that life was ready to offer. I would swim, then sit outside, or run, or even play air soft with my friends. It doesn’t matter what you do, so long as you are in the open and enjoying it. The more time you are outside, and the less you are inside, the more you will learn to experience the natural world. The experience is neither overrated, nor irrelevant to young adults. It is a necessary part of living, and it is important in staying healthy. It is the best thing for anyone to experience. Nature is everything.
Nature is very beautiful. You can get inspired by it. What i think about nature is that is something very special life gives us. Sometimes some of us don't get that concept. You can get lots of ideas from nature. That's why romantic authors get their ideas from. Of course i feel the same way. The best way to experience the natural world is to actually go out there and explore the beautiful nature. It depends how you see things. Not everyone has the same point of view in everything. Young adults like me would actually experience that natural world but some dont.

Nature (yvonne o.)

Through our whole life nature has always been the beginning of our everything. The Garden of Eden was the first place where humans existence began. In that garden Adam and Eve had everything they ever needed, yet the tree of knowledge that was there was a great temptation for them.

Nature as we can see can be a great advantage for us only if we use it wisely. It gives us the sources we need in order to survive. It also gives us the pleasure of enjoying its surroundings. I believe nature is a beautiful thing we can experience, yet ourselves are destroying its beauty. We don't always appreciate what we have and without noticing we start to turn bueaty into trash and disaster. Something as bright as a flower can turn into the blackest and deathful thing because we dont take care of it.

The fantasy we create with its wonderful talents can be destroy and vanished. In a split of a second we throw away every beautiful mood that we build up. That is why we are suppose to keep it safe in order for us to keep benifeting from it because it helps us create our talents just as ideas for authors and poets.

We Take Advatage of Nature

When we enjoy nature the most is when we are stuck in jail and there is no way out to breath the fresh air or simply see the light of the sun. We all take advantage of the beauty that surrounds us & we never realize the beauty of nature. Those people in jail live with the hunger to go outside & experience the nature they once took advantage of. Now a days it's very hard to even pay attention to the beauty of the world because the whole world is full of new media that distracts the entire people from seeing the beautiful flowers, the smell of the rain and the green grass. Nature can be very relaxing to all of us simply the sound of a stream or the sound of waves can be a great meditation when one is stressed out. Nature is what makes the world a beautiful place to be in. :)
nature

Nature is a very beautiful thing to experience, we should take care of nature. Best way to experience nature is by going camping not in a motor home but in a tent, that way you'll be able to see the clouds, stars, hear the birds and be able to smell the fresh air. I dont think nature is overrated at all for young adults like us, because has alot to show us and gives us alot, like flowers, trees etc.

Nature, Is Overrated...

I personally believe nature to be overrated. Yes sometimes it looks amazing in some photos but really, if you think about it, is it really that beautiful? Plus its extremely dangerous and can be potentially life threatening if you don’t know how to survive in it. Still if you really do enjoy nature, then the best thing to do is go and experience it yourself, but as for me, I’d rather stay in society, not the middle of the woods.

Nature

My feelings on nature is that its a beautiful thing. Nature makes the world cleaner in a way. We experience different things with nature and what it gives us. Nature gets you into this weird feeling when your on in about.

I believe authors exaggerate when describing nature. Sure nature is a beautiful thing but in due time nature changes into a ugly thing. Their is times when nature is good and evil. We humans destroy this beautiful thing by chopping down forest and destroying forest for city's.

The best way to experience the natural world is to explore it. Go on road trips, hiking or simply visit a national forest. The best way to explore nature is to go survive in it. By doing this you will learn unique ways to survive in nature and to actually experience it.

nature

the out doors is nice and all but some people take it to far.im a hunter and i love Nature but im not in love with it over all its overrated i really dont care what people like or dont like about nature

Nature

I think nature is one of the most beautiful things we have in life and I think we should take care of it. I agree with Wordsworth that said that nature allowed him to "see into the life of things." nature is, in my opinion, the thing that makes this world beautiful. The best way to experience the natural world is going and experiencing it ourselves, see what else is out there and discover new things. I think the experience is not overrated or irrelevant because once we go out there and see what this world has to offer us we realize that we're harming nature with all the contamination we're producing.
Nature is beautiful because its the way everything was meant to be. Nature is the best way to look at life cause of simplicity of it, but as you get farther from nature and closer to society those big tall trees become pencils and the rabbit that just passed you is getting its foot cut off for a keychain.

Nature Brandon Cordova

I think that nature is important because we get most of our resources and when you see nature in photos it looks amazing. I don't feel the same way as the Romantic Authors because i don't love the nature. The best way to experienced the nature world is to travel to diffrent places and see how nature changes in diffrenet places. Some young adults would actually like to know more about nature but some really dont care about nature.

Precious Palms- Romance Nature

..::-*- My feelings about Nature.....I think nature is beautiful, and I honestly find it really interesting how the enviorment changes. Climate and the enviornmental scenary varies far and few it can range from artic crisp dry-cold to warm dewy lush green land. I do feel the same way as Wordsworth who believes nature allowed him to "see into the life of things." Currently in the United States, the cities are highly polluted and littered by fast food receptacles and the cities' nature is dead or faux-plants. I think the way the world is with all its controversies is projecting through by the quality of our Nature. I think the best way to expierence the best of what the world has left is to go into the country side of the city or leave the country all together and venture out into an Island. To me, i personally like nature but I am not in love with it- sometimes it is overrated but in reality it really isn't so it's only irrelevant because our generation is lazy and narrcisitic.

nature and sal

Nature is the foundation of all life. it is our first scene of home and where every living being started. It is sadly a forgotten subject in society not many people and not everyone gets to enjoy all of its beauty. It is sad that most of it is being destroyed for industrial reasons and i believe people should be more appreciative of nature and all take time to look out at more than there back yard.Everyone should have a chance at seeing a waterfall or a lake and look at the life it gives and learn to take care of it more. people just don't appreciate the simple things and i think everyone should go out and view nature as it should be seeing.

Alana Marcum- Romance

Nature to me is just...NATURE! It is beautiful, yet deadly. I do not feel like nature create a romantic feeling for one another, it is all in the person. Nature doesn't crawl into your ear whispering to you to spontaneously kiss the person you crush on. ITS ALL YOU! The best way to experience it is to live where nature can have both good an bad days. Not to live in a little princess fairytale Forest or island but experience every disaster nature has to offer too. This is too overrated to young adults cause we do not really care about seeing a beautiful sunset with a crush anymore....it's all mostly just for young kids still into the Disney princesses and all that....and old people too.

MY POST< B****

What is your feelings about nature? Do you feel the same way? If so why, or why not? What is the best way to experience the natural world? Is the experience itself overrated and irrelevant to young adults like yourself?

Nature should be protected and respected, it was here before we were. Yes, because inspiration and beauty can be found evreywhere where nature is still florishing. Go enjoy nature, camping, hiking, etc. No, nothing is overrated for young adults.
